2017 Jubilee Celebrations

Surrounded by the SNJM community, relatives, friends and musicians, Sr. Carol Fleitz and Sr. Mary Duffy celebrated their 50 years of consecrated life at Sacred Heart Church in Saratoga, CA on April 22nd. The presiding priest was Sr. Mary’s cousin, Rev. Anthony McGuire. The seven other members of their 1964 entry group were able to attend and the two Jubilarians read a prayer of gratitude for these women and the paths they chose.

On Saturday, June 3rd Sisters, Associates, families, friends and ministry partners celebrated the Jubilees of seven Sisters who made First Profession sixty and seventy years ago. The Eucharistic Celebration and reception were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Los Gatos. Sr. Maureen Delaney welcomed all to the celebration where the Jubilarians renewed their vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. Father Ron Shirley from the Diocese of Monterey was presider and toward the conclusion of Mass, John Cummins, retired Bishop of the Diocese of Oakland and educated by the Sisters of the Holy Names, shared some brief reflections on the history of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary coming to the Northwest and then California, and the constants of change over more than 150 years of ministry in the region.
