"They whom we love and lose

are no longer where they were before,

they are now wherever we are."

Sister Maureen Patricia McCall (Mary Alice)

June 13, 1919–June 2, 2013

Adapted from the reflections by Sister Jean Cather

First I’d like to share what Sister Maureen Patricia left for us in her notes, what she wanted you to know, and then a bit about her last days here in Los Gatos.

Mary Alice McCall was born June 13, 1919. She wrote: “I was the fourth of five children, two boys and three girls, born to Alice Bernadette Sullivan and Eugene Dominic McCall in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Sister Barbara Stark (Sister Joseph Williams)

January 16, 1932–June 1, 2013

Adapted from reflections by Sister Vera Ruotolo

January 16, 1932, Barbara Stark was born in Alhambra, California, the fourth child of Constance Stark, and the late Joseph Stark, who passed away 8 months earlier. Therese especially bonded with her sister and they were close lifelong companions; she cared for her when she was little and no doubt influenced her spiritual path.

Sister Emily Marie McKernan (Josephine Marie)

July 17, 1919–March 23, 2013

Adapted from the reflections by Sister Mary Pat LeRoy

Josephine and her twin brother, Joseph McKernan, were born in Pasadena, California to Hugh and Marie Bosch McKernan on July, 17, 1919. Josephine survived the pre-mature birth of the twins, but Joseph died six weeks later. This happy/sad event was the beginning of the McKernan family: six girls–Josephine, Rita, Loretta, Margaret, Helen, and Mary Agnes (our Sr. Rita Josephine) and five boys–Tom, Dan, Robert, Bill and the ever-remembered Joseph.

July 13, 1939 – August 29, 2012

Anne Kathleen Dinneen was born in San Francisco, California on July 13, 1939, the first child of Jeremiah and Julia Dinneen and, along with her brother Leo, was raised in traditional Irish customs and very much a part of the Irish community in San Francisco. Anne found her parents’ simple faith “an inspiration.”
